Buick Gran Sport did it with class. Better interior, better frames and body bushings, better off idle torque, and more comfort while still showing a more than adequate power. The so called bankers hot rod. It can run with almost any muscle car and still look great out on the town with better styling in my opinion than the other GM A bodies.      1972 gran Sports were built at  the end of the first generation of muscle cars While down on horsepower and torque the 72 Stage 1 was still the torque king. 1972 Stage 1 GS was named the muscle car of the year. Now we all understand that this car is not the gorilla of 1970 but it will still boil the hides as they say and it will do it on pump gas. And what car did Buick supply to all the car magazines in 1972 a Stage 1 SunCoupe (see the orange car in pictures).      The SunCoupe line was a regular option on Skylark Custom models but a SCO (special car order) for the Gran Sport. The factory delivered complete hardtop vehicles to American Sunroof Company ( ASC) a company also known for many other special builds for other manufacturers. ASC cut the top added structural members to strengthen the roof, installed the sunroof assembly, special badging and rebuilt the headliner. 1972 was the only year for the soft folding sunroof in a Buick. Then finished autos were then shipped on to the ordering dealers. This is a rare car even in Skylark trim with around 3500 made but in Gran Sport trim it’s very rare. The Sloan Museum has the records for all 72 model Gran Sports and I have this documentation as well as the original window sticker, original title, every inspection from Virginia from new till it was parked.      For your consideration is this well documented and  all numbers matching 1972 Gran Sport Stage 1 SunCoupe. This car is the result of a 6 year frame off restoration. the restoration was performed by several shops including being finished at Then and Now Restorations in Marietta Ga. Before starting the restoration I collected every NOS part I could find I’ll start with those. These items are all NOS > front bumper and  rubber protective strips> headlight doors> grille>front hood molding> hood scoop grilles> ram air foams>inner front fenders> front fenders>power brake booster>air pump and diverter valve> vaccum advance  specific to stage 1> ignition points>>wheel opening chrome>power seat track>dash a/c control>front windshield stainless>all 4 marker lights>front turn signal lenses>horn button>taillights&gaskets>N 25 tips> rear bumper rubber all> front and rear shocks>GS fender emblems>GS trunk emblem>trunk lock assy> defrost/cruise dash plate.door locks>ignition key switch>ram air foams>breather decals>>>All other items were restored originals or reproductions like the Stage 1 emblems door handles are re chromed originals. restored stainless trim and rear bumper. Now this car eluded me for 12 years, because with only 3 known and only 6 built it was difficult to almost impossible to find an original one for sale.  I know some purists may balk at the color change and the addition of options but all of these were available on this car if the buyer chose to do so. I built the car I would have ordered.      The car: Originally sold in  Roanoke Virginia  it was a white code 10B car with black top and interior. It is now code 26B stratomist blue with black  top andinterior. It was optioned with the powerful stage 1 TH-400 3.42 posi  A/C, P/S, Sunroof and a dealer added power trunk. Since I had looked for so long for this particular car I accepted the rough condition. But I knew it could be transformed into the beauty it is today. The car was stripped down to a shell and media blasted to reveal any rust and corrosion. All metal was replaced with rust free original sheet metal no reproduction china made steel. The major body work was done by Mid America Mustang in St Charles Mo. I used them because of a long relationship I had with the owner and his shop when I had Mustangs. They did the best work on Mustangs in the mid west. With all sheet metal work done the body was pulled from the frame and the frame blasted and powder coated satin chassis black along with the rear housing and front/rear suspension parts. The entire drive line  engine, transmission and rear axle are the originals to the car and were rebuilt and perform flawlessly by South Side Speed Shop in St Louis Mo. the engine still carries the WS code to designate Stage 1, the born with  large valve stage 1 heads the original BB transmission both with the VIN of this car still stamped on them and the original LWB 342 positraction rear axle is still in place as is the 1112016 distributor and the 7042242 stage 1 auto specific quadrajet, which was completely rebuilt and re colored by Tri Shield Performance. the car exhaust is carried by a Gardner OEM exhaust with the correct N  25 tailpipes and NOS tips and correct repoduction N 25 hangers. The car rides on 15X7 chrome rally wheels and  G 60 15 Goodyear polyglass tires supplied by Then and Now Restorations. The interior was furnished by Legendary Auto Interiors the best on the market. This car still has it one year only T-3 headlights and they still work well. The radio and 8 track were repaired as well and reproduction correct speakers installed.      I have a clear title in my possession and the original title as well. I have the inspections from new until the car was parked with just over 70k miles. New owners manual, a parts manual for 1975.
