This is the World famous “The Polynesian” custom 1950 Olds built by Valley Customs for Jack Stewart in 1953. Custom car collectors and enthusiasts the World over have recognized this work of art as one the truly iconic cars of the early custom car scene. Gracing the cover of Hot Rod magazine in September of 1953, the documentation of the build was extensive. The craftsmanship is some of the finest of all time. From the hammer welded seams to the fabrication of the trim, not a single detail was rushed or overlooked. To put the build cost in perspective the Olds cost $1,800. The build cost was $1,700 and the interior was $250.00. Quite an expensive undertaking percentage wise, for any build then or now.

Jack Stewart drove the Polynesian daily for many years when he returned to Ohio from California. Along the way Jack made some changes to the car before it was ultimately put in storage. After sitting for many years the car was purchased by Gene Blackford, who was friends with Jack for many years until Jack’s passing. In 2005 Gene a master metal fabricator, painter and customizer decided to fully restore the Polynesian to its original glory and configuration. Upon it’s completion Gene displayed the car at the Glenmoor Gathering Concours, where it received rave reviews. Gene has decided the time has come for the car to go to a new owner, who be only the third owner in 68 years. “The Polynesian” would be the Crown Jewel in any museum or private collection.
